In the Eighty Years' War, the Capture of Brielle by the Watergeuzen in 1572 provided the first foothold on land for the rebels, who would conquer the northern Netherlands and establish an independent Dutch Republic.
The watergeuzen entered the city through the North gate. At this historic site a new building is designed by RO&AD architecten as a reflection of the North gate of 1572.
The designers of Kinkorn  gave an extra layer to this building by adding some historical text to the construction.
The lighting subtly highlights the structure in the evening while remaining understated. As visitors enter the building, the light responds to their presence, illuminating the areas they occupy. From the outside, it appears as if someone is walking through the building with a lantern. During festivities, a more vibrant lighting scheme can be selected.
